Check out my thoughts on reading and please leave my your's!
Happy Friday Guys! Well it isn't quite Friday, but you know what I mean. I hope you have an amazing week. And I hope during this week you will get a lot of fresh air and read many books. I am hoping to finish A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and start another one. Thank you to Mattie and Cenidei, who have already shared what they are reading. Mattie - I really liked the book you are reading. I felt both happy and sad for the tiger. Cenidei - I have not read the book you mentioned, so I am looking forward to hearing all about it. I hope others will join our chat about what we all are reading during Reading Week.
Read On, Mrs. Watt

Write an interesting word you found in your book. It could be a word you did not understand or know. It could also be a word you thogwas really interesting! Write the definition of the word and use it in a sentence.

Today in our Weekly Reading Journal we are asked to make a connection. "This book reminds me of ________ because___________." We can make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection.
The connection I make with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is text-to-text. I think that Harry and Annie, from the movie Annie are very similar. She is also an orphan who is adopted by a very rich man and has all she has ever dreamed of. Although Annie's journey is not as hard as Harry's. Mrs. Watt For the next 50 days 4LWB will be participating in a reading challenge. Our hope is to become life long readers and recognize that reading can be done at anytime and anywhere!
Our job is to read for 20 minutes a day and to document about what what we have read. Mrs. Watt will also join in and is reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We look forward to sharing what we are reading as well as learning about the #100Places2Read! I love the summer break! It gives me a lot of time to relax, but more importantly, I get to READ! I just finished two books by the same author. I have read About Average, and The Report Card written by Andrew Clements. Experts recommend that you write about what you know and Clements has done just that. He has both stories taking place at school, and he is a former school teacher. I enjoyed both of these books and would highly recommend them. They will be in my classroom library and you are welcome to pop by and check them out!
About Average is about how Jordan who is not only an average student, she is an average person. When a bully targets her she comes up with a way to befriend the bully. The Report Card is a story about Nora, who is anything but average. Nora is an extremely gifted student who is fed up with labels and the way she and her classmates are grouped. She leads a movement to make changes. I found both stories enjoyable and the are two cup of tea books! If you want to learn more about Andrew Clements and his books, check out his website by clicking on his name. I hope your summer is going well and that you are finding time to get outside and move and really cool places to read. Kind Regards, Mrs. Watt |
