This is the second in the #CullenandCobb mystery series. The first is Serpents Rising. I have read it and really enjoyed it, and was really looking forward to the release of Dead Air. I did run up to Calgary and got my signed copy from David.
What I really like about this series is that it is set in Calgary. I grew up west of Cochrane and we spent a lot of time in Calgary, so I am very familiar with many of the places in the book. I can actually picture 17th Ave and the places Cullen would be driving past. It is often said that authors should write about what they know. Places, events and things that they do. As a reader, it is nice to also read about what you know. It helps you engage on a different level. If you are a swimmer and you read about a swimmer you know exactly how the character feels when he climbs up to the starting blocks. If you live in or have traveled to New York City, you understand why Auggie's family (from the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio) walks most everywhere. If you have an interest in what the characters are doing then you are more likely to complete and enjoy the book.
I am hoping to finish the latest #CullenandCobb story this week and the book I will be reading next is The Crusader by Michael Alexander Eisner, this is a historical fiction novel set in Spain during the Christian Crusades.
I hope you have a great book that you can enjoy in the shade. Drop me a note and tell me what you are reading and why you are enjoying it.
