"A Jury of Her Peers" by Susan Glaspell (1917)
Prolific novelist and playwrite. Graduated from Drake University in Des Moines Iowa, she started her writing career as a jouranalist for the Des Moines Daily News. Critics noted, upon the publication of her first novel: "A new author of fine an dnotable gifts."
On December 2, 1900 John Hassack was murdered with an axe as he slept, his 57 year old wife, Margres, was charged with the murder. Glaspell covered the trial for the newspaper. The jury did not beleive her story that she slept throught the killing even though she lay next to her husband as he was murdered and she was found guilty.

1937 (75). He is a Canadian novelist and author of "contes" (a very brief from of the short story). He was born in Sainte-Justine Quebec. He
studied at the College St-Louis in New Brunswick, the Universite de Montreal in Quebec and at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, where he received a PhD in Literature. In 1991 he was made an officer of The Order of Canada. He is also the author of the children's book called "The Hockey Sweater." This is a story about Carrier when he was a young boy who orders a Montréal Canadians sweater from the Eaton's catalog but receives a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.
