Hey guys! I hope your summer is going great and you are reading lots!
I just finished the memoir that I had started, Educated by Tara Westover. Wow! What a crazy life she lead. She never took formal schooling until she was in university and then she ended up winning prestigious academic awards and she even went so far as to obtain a doctorate. She worked very hard for her education and it has paid off. I think what I liked most about this book is how she put words together. I call it "wordsmithing." Only talented writers can "wordsmith" and she is talented. I really enjoyed her story, despite there being a bit of sad part about her family. As I told you my love of reading came from reading Nancy Drew Mysteries, so did my fear of the dark. I was gifted a Nancy Drew for my 10th birthday and I did not look back. When I was in my late elementary years and early junior high years I really enjoyed many different authors. One of my favourite is Judy Blume. I love Tiger Eyes, Deenie, Are you there God it's me, Margret, those are just a few of my favourite of hers, you should really check out some of her work. My next read will be...you will have to wait...I am going shopping tonight. I will be using a gift card that a student gave me as a gift. I will let you know as I get it. Mrs. Watt Hello #45WABD! I hope you are having a great start to your summer! I am! I got to Kimberly and managed to read Last Song by David A. Poulsen and I was not disappointed, I read the 356 pages in two and a half days. I couldn't put it down. I loved the setting, Calgary is the city I grew up closest to and I could picture most of the places that #CullenandCobb visit. I think the best part is when Adam Cullen had to pick up a orange and chocolate milkshake from Peter's Drive In. Peter's is my favourite drive in, and they have the best milk shakes. My dad took my sisters and I there when we were little and I have introduced my children to Peter's and they love the milkshakes also. If you are in Calgary, see if your parents will take you there it is great!
The genre of Last Song is mystery, probably my second favourite genre right after historical fiction. The next book that I will ead is a non-fiction titled Mathematical Mindsets, this will help me become a better math teacher. I will be blogging about each chapter (on my professional website). For enjoyment, I am going to read Educated by Tara Westover, this is a memoir. Memoir is a genre that is non-fiction written in the first person about a part of their life. This is about a girl who did not go to school until she was 17, and ended up going to Harvard and Cambridge, which are very prestigious universities. I am intrigued to find out how and why she did that. I hope your summer is going good so far. I would really like to hear about what you are reading. Let me know in the comments below.
